hi does any one know what kind of simulation software to be used for switching power supplies design. it should be free software available on the net. it may be student version although advanced version will be preferable!

Your question is very general in nature. Are you working on some specific topology? Have you designed your switching power supply using standard PWM controller and discrete components or used Integrated solution from manufacturer like power integration, National Semiconductor, Texas instruments? Look for PI experts from Power integration or use switcher made simple software from National Semiconductor or use SwitcherPro™ Design Software and TINA-TI™ Free Spice Program from Texas.
You can use Power 4-5-6 developed by Dr. Ray Ridley. look for its details on http://www.ridleyengineering.com/software.htm
You could simulate varieties of switching power supply topology using this software. Full version is not free.
You may also use Orcad student version and simulate switching power supply. To use Orcad free version you may need some standard templete, buiding block available for free. You can contact me for further guidance on my email nayan.shelat@gmail.com
I heard abuot LT Spice IV software that is good to use for such application. I have not used and also trying to get the copy , I also want to know from the members that I need to download free version of LT Spice IV software

LT Spice IV is very good. I had been using Orcad PSpice until I found LT Spice. Many firms I have contracted with use LT Spice so I think it is becoming somewhat of a standard.
